How to Create an Add an Addon Domain Detailed Tutorial Print

  • 0

In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to create an addon domain in your cPanel. Before proceeding, make sure your domain is registered with any domain registrar, and the name servers have been updated to the ones provided for your hosting account with Domain India. You can find the name server details in your hosting welcome email or contact support for assistance.

Step 1: Log in to your cPanel To create an addon domain, log in to your cPanel and click on "Addon Domains."

Step 2: Fill in the required fields There are three fields cPanel asks for when creating an addon domain:

  1. "New Domain Name": Enter the new domain name (e.g., newdomain.com) without the 'www.'

  2. "Username/directory/subdomain Name": This will be the folder cPanel creates in your main account's public_html folder. Ensure the name you give doesn't already have a folder to avoid corruption issues.

  3. "Password": Enter any password you prefer.

Step 3: Click on the "Add Domain" button Once you've filled in the required fields, click on the "Add Domain" button to complete the addon domain creation process.

Understanding Addon Domains: Addon domains are treated like subdomains by the server but appear as separate domains to the outside world. Here are a few key points about addon domains:

  1. When setting up an addon domain, the system automatically suggests a suitable folder and creates it for you.
  2. An FTP account is created for the addon domain, directing you to the created folder for uploading the addon site.
  3. To change the addon domain password, use the FTP manager.
  4. View stats for the addon domain under "subdomain stats."
  5. Set up emails for the addon domain in the main cPanel, as addon domains on a shared account do not have their own cPanel.

Addon Domain URLs: Every addon domain is also a subdomain. You can load your addon domain using any of the following URLs:

  • Addon Domain Name: http://addondomain.com/
  • Subdomain Name: http://addondomain.primarydomain.com/
  • Subfolder Name: http://primarydomain.com/addondomain.com/

Important Note: Before adding an addon domain, update the name servers for the domain name to the ones provided for your hosting account with Domain India. You can create an addon domain as long as the domain is registered anywhere and the name servers are properly updated.
