As per the rules enforced by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), all registrants of .IN and other NIXI-managed domain name extensions must comply with mandatory KYC (Know Your Customer) and e-KYC (Electronic KYC) procedures. This guide provides a complete overview of these obligations, especially for Indian and foreign registrants.


🧑‍💼 Who Must Submit KYC?

KYC is mandatory for all domain name holders under the .IN ccTLD and any NIXI-managed second-level extensions like .CO.IN, .ORG.IN, .NET.IN, .FIRM.IN, .IND.IN, etc.

📝 Acceptable KYC Documents

For Indian Registrants:

  • Aadhaar Card (preferably from DigiLocker)

  • PAN Card

  • Passport

  • Voter ID

  • Driving Licence

  • Certificate of Incorporation (for companies), along with authorized signatory’s ID

For Foreign Registrants:

  • Passport (mandatory)

  • Foreign-issued Driving Licence or National ID

  • Letter from Indian Embassy or Mission

  • Income Tax Returns (last 2 years)

  • Business registration document

  • Signed declaration of business connection with India (required under clause 4.4.15)


⏳ When to Submit KYC?

NIXI conducts random sample checks. Non-compliant domains may be locked or suspended.


How to Submit KYC

  1. Prepare a valid scanned copy or DigiLocker PDF of your identity document (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, etc.).

  2. Ensure that the WHOIS details (name, email, address) exactly match the information on your submitted ID.

⚠️ What Happens If You Don’t Comply
