How To Make DNS Changes in cPanel with Domain India DNS

Audience: This article is intended for users with basic to advanced knowledge of DNS management, particularly within cPanel's web hosting control panel. This guide is applicable for domains using DomainIndiaDNS.

Pre-requisites: Access to your cPanel account, and domain hosted with Domain India using DomainIndiaDNS.

Objective: To add, edit, or delete A, MX, CNAME, and TXT records using the Zone Editor in cPanel.

Introduction

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a crucial component for ensuring your website and email services function as expected. In cPanel, the Zone Editor provides a user-friendly interface for managing your DNS records. Remember that changes to DNS settings can take time to propagate across the internet. For Domain India clients, internal system updates usually take between 3-6 hours.

Warning: Incorrectly modifying DNS records can disrupt your website or email service. Make sure you understand the implications of the changes you're making.

Accessing Zone Editor

  1. Log in to your cPanel account via https://yourdomain.com/cpanel.
  2. Navigate to the Domains section.
  3. Click on the Zone Editor icon.

Adding A Records

  1. In the Zone Editor, select your domain from the drop-down menu.
  2. Click on the + A Record button.
  3. Enter the subdomain (e.g., www or ftp) for the A record and specify the IP address.
  4. Click Add A Record to save the configuration.

Tip: Make sure the IP address you're pointing to is accessible and properly configured.

Adding CNAME Records

  1. In the Zone Editor, click on the + CNAME Record button.
  2. Enter the subdomain for the CNAME record (e.g., www).
  3. Input the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) you want to point to. Avoid backslashes and file paths.
  4. Click Add CNAME Record.

Note: Use only valid FQDNs like google.com or mail.yourdomain.com.

Adding MX Records

  1. Navigate back to the main cPanel dashboard.
  2. Under the Email section, click MX Entry.
  3. Select your domain from the drop-down menu.
  4. Choose the email routing option (Automatic is often sufficient).
  5. Specify the priority and the mail server's web address.
  6. Click Add New Record.

Important: MX record changes can take 12-48 hours to propagate worldwide.

Managing & Deleting Records

To modify or remove existing records, locate the specific record in the Zone Editor and click either Edit or Delete. Exercise caution; deleting a record is irreversible.

Advanced Options

The Zone Editor allows for additional customizations like adding TXT records and modifying the Time-to-Live (TTL) values. To add a TXT record, follow similar steps as adding A and CNAME records. The default TTL is 14400 seconds; modify only if necessary.
